Probably the most beautiful celebration of Moraira is the celebration of Moros y Cristianos. The festivities around Moros y Cristianos already start in May. But it’s all about that one week in June. Then everything is really pulled out of the closet. The party week is filled with beautiful parades, music, dance, spectacle on the beach and of course a fireworks show!

Parades during Moros y Cristianos

The various parades are perhaps the highlight of the celebration. The costumes are spectacular and the number of participants is huge. The various parades literally fill the evening.
The municipal employees of Moraira put up hundreds of meters of fences and just as many plastic chairs for visitors. And believe me … those seats are filled well before the start of the parades. In any case, the whole of Teulada-Moraira comes out to see these parades, but most of the visitors sometimes travel hundreds of kilometers to experience the festivities around Moros y Cristianos.

Fighting on the beach

Although the parades are really beautiful and it attracts many thousands of visitors every year, the spectacle on La Ampolla beach is of course what everyone comes for. The first spectacle is about the Moors who take over Moraira from the Cristianos. After this takeover, the Moors will rule Moraira. The next day, in the evening, a second spectacle takes place in which the Cristianos reconquer the coastal town of Moraira from the Moors and expel the Moors. After this it is a big party with music and of course a fireworks show.

More festivities during Moros y Cristianos

During the festival week there is a medieval market on the square in front of the Castle of Moraira. The shields of the various warriors will be hung on the Castle of Moraira and in the morning the inhabitants of Moraira will be woken up with arquebus shots. There are also all kinds of music performances during the week.

June 05 ¨Inauguracíon del mercado Medieval Andalusí¨
The medieval market on the square in front of the castle will be opened at 07.30 pm.

June 08
Carol Británico concert starts at 08.00 pm near the church of Moraira.

June 10
Around 08.30 pm starts a concert in the main shopping street of Moraira, Calle Dr. Calatayud.

June 12 ¨Conquista Moros¨
01.00 pm Presentation of Moros y Cristianos accompanied by a brass band.
02:00 pm Cannon fire at Moraira Castle.
07.15 pm Flower offering to Santísimo Cristo de Moraira y la Ermita del Castillo at the castle, followed by a concert.
11.00 pm The fight on the beach between the Moors and Cristianos where the Moors win and take over Moraira.

June 13 ¨Reconquista¨
08.30 am Cannon fire at Moraira Castle.
11.00 am Parade starts.
01:00 pm Gunfire at Moraira Castle.
07.30 pm Parade from Moros y Cristianos to the beach.
08.00 pm The Cristianos recapture Moraira from the Moros.

June 14 ¨Desfile de Gala¨
08.30 am Cannon fire at Moraira Castle.
12.00 pm Parade accompanied by a brass band.
12.30 pm Cannon fire at Moraira Castle.
