Torre de Vigia hiking trail
Visiting the Cap d´Or tower in Moraira
The Torre de Vigia walk of approximately 1.6 kilometers will be rewarded with a fantastic view of El Portet, Moraira, Calpe, Javea and in nice clear weather you can even see Ibiza. The tower of Moraira has recently been completely renovated. That was a spectacular sight at the time. The building materials were brought in by helicopter.
Torre de Vigia
At the top of the mountain you will find an 11 meter high and 7 meter wide tower that dates from 1553. The tower was part of the defense network along the coast in connection with the many pirates that were active in the Mediterranean Sea.
El Cap D´Or walking route
Despite the fact that it is only a half hour walk before you reach the top, it is not an easy route. Of course the route goes up, but the biggest concern is the walking path to be followed. I even wonder if I can call it a walking path. In the Netherlands I would say it looks more like an ¨elephant path¨. Incidentally, the mountain owes its name to the sunrise. In the morning, the sun rises on the other side of the mountain, making the mountain golden.
Preparation
As mentioned, the path to the top is not a nicely paved path. It is a pebble path with many boulders that lead the way up. It is therefore advisable to wear sturdy shoes. You will not complete this walk with a pair of slippers on your feet. In addition, sufficient water is not an unnecessary luxury. On the way up you will not come across a water point or catering establishment. Also take something with you that you can possibly put waste in. There are no garbage cans along the route.
Cova de la Cendra
During the walk up you will end up at a ¨crossroads¨. Here you can choose to visit the Old Tower or walk to the Cave. The cave is a prehistoric site, so it cannot always be visited. Some parts are closed due to research. The cave is huge (500m2) and offers a beautiful view towards the sea.
Please note: the route to the cave is more difficult than to the tower. The path to the cave is even rougher.
