Lunch is often the main event of the day. Like the Spanish, many winter visitors take their time. A relaxed lunch overlooking the Mediterranean can easily continue well into the afternoon.
Later in the day, the atmosphere changes. Once the sun becomes lower and loses its warmth, temperatures feel noticeably cooler and people gradually return to their villa or apartment.
Moraira is therefore generally much quieter in the evening than during summer. Of course, restaurants remain an option, but many long-stay guests prefer a leisurely lunch outside and a comfortable evening at home.

The cooler months are particularly good for exploring the Costa Blanca. Summer temperatures can make long walks, cycling or sightseeing less appealing during the middle of the day. Winter provides much more opportunity to be active.
Walking
The coastline around Moraira and Benissa Costa offers numerous walking opportunities. You can follow coastal paths, explore the area around El Portet and Cap d’Or or simply walk from Moraira along the Mediterranean towards Andragó.
Cycling
The inland countryside and mountain roads behind the Costa Blanca are popular with both recreational and experienced cyclists. Winter temperatures make longer rides far more comfortable than during the hottest summer months.
Golf
Club de Golf Ifach is located in San Jaime, only a short drive from Moraira. Several of our villas are located close to the course, making them particularly convenient for golfers planning a longer winter stay.
Tennis and padel
Tennis and padel are popular throughout the region and provide an easy way to remain active during a longer stay.
Markets and local towns
Moraira has its own weekly market, while surrounding towns also hold markets on different days. A longer stay gives you time to explore places such as Jávea, Dénia, Calpe and Altea without trying to fit everything into one short holiday.

A central apartment is particularly practical if you prefer not to depend on a car. This becomes especially convenient during a longer stay. You can walk downstairs for fresh bread, have coffee in town, go to the market or head out for dinner without thinking about parking. Villa outside the centre
If you arrive with your own car or plan to rent one, a villa offers a very different winter experience. Most of our villas are located in quiet residential areas around Moraira and Benissa Costa. The main advantage during winter is not necessarily the swimming pool. It is the extra outdoor space. A villa often has several terraces and seating areas, allowing you to move around the property during the day and follow the sunshine.
Some areas may catch the morning sun, others are more comfortable around lunchtime, while another terrace may remain sunny later in the afternoon.
A villa is particularly suitable if you value:

Where does the sun reach?
The sun sits lower in the sky during winter. A terrace that is wonderfully shaded in August may receive very little direct sunshine in January.

Is the terrace sheltered from the wind?
Moraira can have beautiful sunny winter days, but a cool breeze can make a considerable difference. A sheltered terrace may feel pleasantly warm while an exposed one feels much cooler at exactly the same time.
Are there several outdoor areas?
The ideal winter property often has more than one place to sit outside. Perhaps breakfast in the morning sun, lunch on another terrace and a final sunny spot later in the afternoon.
After roughly 4 pm, the strength of the winter sun usually decreases quickly and life tends to move indoors. That makes the comfort inside the accommodation equally important.

A stay of several weeks asks more from a property than a one-week summer holiday. After years of welcoming long-stay guests, we know that seemingly small details become increasingly important.
A comfortable bed
A good night’s sleep matters on every holiday, but even more when you are staying for several weeks. That is why bed quality and size are important considerations when we advise winter guests.
Good heating
Spanish homes are designed very differently from houses in northern Europe or North America. Even when daytime temperatures are pleasant, evenings can feel cool. Effective heating is therefore essential. Depending on the property, this may include heating/cooling air conditioning, central heating, underfloor heating, electric heating or a fireplace.
Sunny and sheltered outdoor space
A beautiful terrace is only useful in winter if you can actually enjoy it. Orientation, sunshine and protection from the wind become major selection criteria.
Reliable internet
Many long-stay guests want to stream television, stay in contact with family or perhaps work remotely for part of their stay. Reliable fibre-optic internet is therefore increasingly important.
A complete kitchen
Eating out every day may be fun during a one-week holiday. During a stay of several weeks, most guests also want to cook comfortably at home. A well-equipped kitchen, dishwasher, decent refrigerator and sufficient cookware make a considerable difference.
Comfortable indoor living space
During summer, most of life happens outside. In January or February, you are more likely to spend part of the evening indoors. A comfortable sofa, good dining area, heating and pleasant living room therefore matter considerably more during winter.
Do you need a car in Moraira?
If you choose Apartment Monica, Moraira Suites or one of our central penthouses, you can comfortably manage everyday life without a car. Shops, restaurants, supermarkets, cafés, beaches and the marina are all within walking distance. A car is mainly useful for excursions.
Staying in a villa
For villas in residential areas such as San Jaime, Moravit, Benimeit, Sabatera or Benissa Costa, we generally recommend having a car.
Some properties are technically within walking distance of shops, restaurants or the coast, but this does not necessarily mean walking is practical every day. Residential areas can also be hilly. A car gives you much more freedom for shopping, visiting different beaches and exploring the Costa Blanca.

A longer stay is different from a summer holiday
When booking one week in August, it is easy to choose mainly on photographs. For a 6, 8 or 12-week stay, the practical details become much more important.
