Our Experience with Guide Eline

Discover Valencia by bike with a fantastic English-speaking guide
Beautiful historic streets, impressive squares, green parks and extraordinary modern architecture. Valencia is a wonderful city to explore. And in our opinion, one of the best ways to discover it is by bicycle! Valencia is relatively flat and has an excellent network of cycle paths. That makes it easy to see a surprising amount of the city in just a few hours. But where should you go? And how do you discover the fascinating stories behind all those beautiful buildings? We decided to book a guided bike tour. After asking around for recommendations, one name kept coming up: Eline from Eline loves Valencia. And we’re so glad we followed that advice!

Why Cycling in Valencia Is Such a Great Experience

Valencia is a city full of wonderful contrasts. One moment you’re cycling past a centuries-old city gate, and the next you’re riding through a beautiful green park towards futuristic buildings. Because much of the city is flat, cycling is relaxed and enjoyable. You can also cover considerably more ground than you would on foot. And with a knowledgeable guide, there’s no need to keep stopping to check Google Maps.
Our tip: if you’re visiting Valencia for the first time, start with a guided bike tour. You’ll discover the main attractions and get plenty of ideas about where you’d like to return afterwards.

Our Experience with Eline Loves Valencia

When we decided to explore Valencia by bike, we wanted someone who really knew the city. After talking to friends and other people living in Spain, we were repeatedly recommended Eline. Eline is Dutch, has lived in Valencia for many years and is an officially registered tourist guide. She organises guided tours through Valencia Inside, including bike tours in English and Dutch. What immediately appealed to us was her personal approach. Rather than simply following a fixed script, Eline is interested in what her guests would like to discover. Are you fascinated by history? Do you enjoy architecture? Or would you rather hear about everyday Spanish life and the best places to eat? Eline knows how to make Valencia interesting, entertaining and fun.

And importantly for our British guests, Eline speaks fluent English and is just as comfortable giving her tours in English as in Dutch.

A Lovely Start in the Historic Centre

For our tour, we arranged to meet Eline near Valencia Cathedral. After introducing ourselves, we walked to a nearby bicycle rental shop. And we have to say, the bicycles were excellent! Comfortable saddles, working gears and good brakes. Anyone who’s hired a bike on holiday knows that these things aren’t always guaranteed. After a short introduction, we were ready to go.

Discovering Valencia’s Historic Old Town

Our bike tour began in Valencia’s beautiful historic centre. We cycled past an old city gate and discovered impressive buildings, lively squares and charming streets. Along the way, Eline shared fascinating stories about Valencia’s history and the people who have shaped the city. We passed places such as Valencia Cathedral, the famous Mercado Central and La Lonja de la Seda, the historic Silk Exchange. These are all beautiful attractions in their own right. But listening to Eline’s stories made them even more interesting. She has a wonderful way of bringing the city to life without overwhelming you with dates and historical details. After a pleasant coffee stop, it was time to explore a completely different side of Valencia.

Cycling Through the Beautiful Turia Gardens

One of the highlights of our tour was the Jardín del Turia. This enormous green park runs for approximately nine kilometres through Valencia, following the former course of the River Turia. Today, the old riverbed is filled with gardens, walking paths, cycle routes, playgrounds and beautiful bridges. It’s remarkable to find so much greenery right in the middle of a busy city. Cycling through the Turia Gardens is wonderfully relaxing, with long stretches away from ordinary road traffic. And with Eline explaining how the former riverbed became a park, you appreciate the surroundings even more.
Our tip: even if you explore Valencia without a guide, make sure you spend some time in the Turia Gardens. It’s one of our favourite parts of the city.

The City of Arts and Sciences | A Spectacular Highlight

At the eastern end of the Turia Gardens stands one of Valencia’s most impressive attractions: the City of Arts and Sciences. Known locally as Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, this extraordinary complex is famous for its futuristic white buildings and beautiful reflecting pools. Much of the architecture was designed by Valencia-born architect Santiago Calatrava. Here you’ll find the Science Museum, the Hemisfèric, the Palau de les Arts and the spectacular Oceanogràfic nearby. The buildings are impressive enough on their own. But once again, Eline’s explanations made the experience that little bit more special. It was certainly one of the highlights of our morning!

Finishing with a Delicious Tapas Lunch

After around three hours of cycling, Eline brought us back towards the historic centre. And she had one more lovely surprise for us. She’d arranged a table at a tapas restaurant she knew well. With her recommendations fresh in our minds, we ordered several delicious Spanish dishes and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. It was the perfect way to finish our morning. We’d seen beautiful places, learnt plenty about Valencia and, perhaps most importantly, had a really enjoyable time.

For us, that’s what made the tour with Eline so memorable.

It wasn’t simply a cycling excursion. It felt like discovering Valencia with someone who genuinely loves the city. Our tapas lunch was a personal arrangement after the tour, rather than a standard inclusion in every booking.

Practical Tips for Cycling in Valencia

Valencia is a wonderful cycling city, but a little preparation helps.

  • Use the cycle lanes | Valencia has an extensive network of cycle routes.
  • Bring drinking water | Especially during the warmer summer months.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes | You’ll be outdoors for several hours.
  • Travelling with children | Ask Eline about suitable bicycles, child seats and the best tour for your family.
  • Book ahead | Confirm your meeting point, group size, tour language and what’s included before travelling.

We particularly enjoy Valencia in spring, autumn and winter, when temperatures are often very pleasant for cycling. During the summer, an earlier start is usually more comfortable.

Visiting Valencia from Moraira | Getting There and Parking

Valencia is a wonderful full-day excursion from Moraira.

The journey by car normally takes around 1 hour 20 minutes, depending on traffic and your destination. During our own bike tour, we parked beneath Plaza de la Reina, close to the cathedral. That was very convenient for our meeting point. However, not every bike tour starts in exactly the same place.
Our tip: arrange your tour first and then choose a suitable car park nearby.
